4 Common Types of Essential Oil Diffuser

Essential oils such as lavender, marjoram, ylang-ylang, sweet orange, lemon balm, etc. are used for aromatherapy to promote calmness and sleep. The essential oil diffuser is a device that disperses these essential oils into the air by breaking them down into smaller molecules, for a pleasant or calming effect. The effects vary depending upon the essential oil you use and sometimes you can combine two or more essential oils in the right amount to get a particular result. The main job of the diffuser is to evenly disperse particles that are easy to breathe and don’t overbear the room. However, there are various types of diffusers available, each one with a different purpose. Here are some of the common essential oil diffusers that you can use for aromatherapy:

1.      Nebulizing Diffuser:

Nebulizing essential oil diffuser diffuses a mist of oil by using pressurized air. A vacuum pulls the essential oil to the surface of a distribution tube and bursts the aroma into the air. These diffusers are very low-maintenance as they do not require water or heat for the diffusion process. These diffusers are also plastic-free and eco-friendly.

2.      Ultrasonic Diffuser:

In this diffuser, ultrasonic vibrations break up the essential oil molecules to create a fine mist. In order to release the mist, you need to dilute the essential oil with water for the diffuser’s electronic frequencies. Ultrasonic essential oil diffusers work like cold humidifiers, which makes them a great option if you want to add a little moisture into the air, especially during cold or dry seasons. To maintain this diffuser, its plastic parts require frequent cleaning as essential oils can be harsh on the container cup.

3.      Evaporative Diffuser:

This type of essential oil diffuser uses a fan to turn oil into gas, making it evaporate into the air. However, when the oil evaporates, it losses some of its potency. So, if you want a quick or occasional aromatic session, this diffuser will be good for you.

4.      Heat or Electric Diffusers:

Instead of using a fan for evaporation, this diffuser uses most commonly, heat. However, heating the essential oil may change its chemical properties, altering the intensity according to its properties. As there is no fan involved, these diffusers are very silent. Different types of heat diffusers include electric heat diffusers, candle diffusers, lamp ring diffusers, etc.

There are also some diffusers available in the market with cool features like sound features and ambient lighting. Diffusers such as design-led ceramic or reed oil diffusers give you a wellness vibe in the space you use. Also, there are diffusers with timers or automatic switch-offs, which are a great option if you are planning to use your diffuser for a long time or to fall asleep.
